I am a huge fan of cast irons. I have four sizes and cook with them 95% of the time. I wouldn’t use anything else. I’m lucky enough to live in Portland where I can get my hands on the best cast irons from FINEX. Don’t worry, if you don’t live in Portland you can purchase them online… and perhaps at places like William Sonoma or Sur La Table. I am also lucky enough to photograph these beautiful handcrafted works for of art. The shape, handle and gold accents make this kitchen cookware a dream to shoot.
I had the pleasure of working with Filipino chef Carlo Lamagna of (soon-to-open) Magna and was able to photograph his Kare-Kare stew and Bibingka, a coconut rice cake. …And yes, I tried them both and they were delicious. It was awesome to see the Dutch oven used in a charcoal grill and it gave me some ideas of my own as I love rolling out the charcoal grill.
For both recipes visit the Finex website and click on recipes- they are both listed there. (And don’t mind the upside down photo for the Bibingka…???…ha!) Enjoy the photos.
