Sight, smell and definitely taste were kicked into high gear during Feast’s Smoked event. It was a perfect summer evening (the light was gorgeous, which makes this photographer happy.) I have to admit that I did not eat EVERYTHING at Smoked. (Gasp?!) I spent the first part taking photos- the light and the grilling and the smoke and the happiness was perfect and I chose my camera over stuffing my face. (You can gasp again if you want.) Plus I had to leave early to go to my actual photography assignment for the evening. I eventually put the camera down and enjoyed plenty of mouth-watering bites and a few wine samples.
My favorite bite of the night was from Ataula. Chef Jose Chesa created a Smoked Moruno-Spiced Pork Belly with Green Lentil Puree, Escalivada, Black Olives and Pork Cracklings. Seriously- delish! Chris Cosentino with Cockscomb (San Fran) made a stellar Grilled Jowl with Smoked Oyster Remoulade. Hama Hama oysters was a hit and happened to be neighbors with Nicolas Feuillatte Champagne. (Okay, I know it was on purpose.) How can you go wrong with oysters and Champagne? It was a delicious combo and their Champagne was amazing. Stoller Vineyards (one of my all-time faves) created a cocktail with gin, rosemary, and their Rosè. It was beautiful, pink and went down easy. On my way out I remembered that Salt & Straw was serving up some kind of dessert (and really who cares what it is, it’s Salt & Straw). So I ran through The Fields Park and grabbed my final treat, Smoked Snickers Bar with Marionberries and Smoked Honey. Feel free to drool.
Even though I did not stuff my belly, I still think it is safe to say that this was one of my favorite events from Feast. Wine and grilling are right up my ally. I enjoyed myself, I enjoyed taking photographs and I hope you enjoy the photos.
These pictures are unreal!!!!
The shots with the smoke wafting like a character of its own in the photo and the salt sprinkle photo are incredible, though I don’t know how you resisted all those aromas despite the gorgeous light and sights
WOW. Just: WOW. I can’t even. Your talent is unparalleled, girlfriend.
Those action shots are amazing, Aubrie. That smoke! Those seeds! The fire and the light! I can’t wait to go next year! Love it all.
Mouthwatering pictures! I love them all, but my favorite is the second one – of the sesame sprinkle.
Ok, I may have just died and gone to smoke heaven. What kind of camera were you using because I really felt like I could smell it from here. WOW.

These photos are AMAZING. You captured this event so well (I think, I wasn’t there–but I can almost taste it!)!
